Vatican explains Pope’s civil union comments

Pope Francis’ comments on gay civil unions were taken out of context in a documentary which had spliced together parts of an old interview, the Vatican said, while also confirming the Pope’s belief that gay couples should enjoy legal protections. An October 21 premiere of the film ’Francesco’ at the Rome Film Festival resulted in an uproar after comments by Pope Francis were heard.

Given how often the Vatican Press Office has to try and spin Francis’ words into the exact opposite of what he actually said, I almost wonder if he’s just screwing with them at this point.
