California voters backed Proposition 22, which lets Uber and Lyft continue to treat their drivers in the state as independent contractors rather than employees entitled to benefits. They won’t be getting standard employment benefits, like health insurance, paid sick leave, etc. However, the companies will have to extend some benefits for the drivers, like health and accident insurances subsidies.
And all is well with the world....... At least the classy actor and producer types in LA won't have to choose between outrageous cab fares and walking.
I'm glad this won but a part of me wishes it didn't and Uber and Lyft just left the state. California needs more brave people/businesses leaving so it can collapse and start over already.
