Stillbirths doubled in England during Covid-19 first wave, doctors claim

In England, there were 40 cases between April and June this year compared to 24 in the same period in 2019, according to the United Kingdom’s healthcare watchdog Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch. The HSIB fears pregnant women were put off seeking treatment because of the pandemic. Obstetricians also believe redeploying maternity staff to Covid-19 intensive care may have also played a role.

Did they check it was English births and not, say, Pakistani? (Who are known for being inbred literally half of the time. The high estimate is three quarters!) Because that would explain it too and probably needs ruling out.

Just more deaths chalked up to the reaction to the illness, instead of the illness itself.
