WhatsApp permitted to launch payments in India

Facebook CEO Zuckerberg announced that he was excited that WhatsApp has received approval to roll out its payments service in India. Facebook is to commence its service with 20M users. WhatsApp, with over 400M users in India, will compete with Alphabet’s GPay, Softbank- and Alibaba-backed Paytm and Walmart’s PhonePe. The service will carry no fee, and is supported by over 140 banks.
