In a bid to attract foreign investment and tourism, the United Arab Emirates moved to overhaul some of its strictest Islamic laws and bolster women’s rights. The changes will allow unmarried couples to live together and decriminalize the sale and consumption of alcohol. The changes will be brought into effect immediately, and also introduce tougher penalties for sexual harassment.
