Suspect in 48-year-old murder dies in apparent suicide hours before conviction

Terrence Miller, the suspect who eluded law in Washington State for nearly five decades until a DNA match on a coffee cup solved the cold case, died in an apparent suicide just hours before a jury convicted him of murder. Miller, 78, was charged in 2019 with the murder of Jody Loomis in 1972 in Snohomish County. Court papers said she was sexually assaulted and then shot in the head with a handgun.

Ya know, I'm all for cold cases finding justice, but we've had so many of these "apparent suicides while in custody and facing trial" coughepsteincough, what I really want to see is reform of our surveillance systems and procedures. How are people managing to off themselves while in custody???
