Supreme Court unlikely to strike down entire Affordable Care Act

Supreme Court Justices have suggested that even if the coverage mandate is determined to be unconstitutional, then the entire ACA law will not be struck down. Likely the provision will be severed from the rest of the ACA leaving provisions such as the protections for pre-existing conditions to stay in place.

Guaranteeing that those with preexisting conditions won’t have increased rates is dumb. Imagine if you didn’t have to get car insurance until after your car got in a wreck. Imagine if you didn’t have to buy home insurance until after a tree goes through your roof. Why would you buy insurance if doing it after your problems begin doesn’t cost you any more that doing it before? Nobody would get insurance, and that’s the only way you keep insurance afloat. Either those with preexisting conditions would not be able to get coverage, or they would need to have significantly higher rates.

If this is true it will help out so many Americans. I hope so.
