Peru erupts in protest after ousting of president

Protests erupted in Peru after the abrupt ouster of President Martin Vizcarra, who was impeached over unproven allegations of receiving bribes. In Lima, the country’s capital, demonstrators clashed with riot police, who fired tear gas to disperse the crowds. The protests are piling pressure on the new government of Manuel Merino, a member of the center-right Popular Action party.

Ok I live in Peru and this’ll get long: the Parlament impeached president Vizcarra for alleged corruption. The case doesn’t seem to be watertight but so be it, that’s not the main point. In 5 months elections are scheduled. The new interim preaident wants to pack the supreme court with his appointies, tried to double the gov budget (not the deficit, the budget) funneling metric tons of money to his friends, let free “friends” who are in prison for over a hundred differemt chargea of corruption, wants to reallow the fake universitiea of many congressmen (which were shutdown because they didn’t teach a thing) . When protests errupted, police were commanded to brutally shut them down. They not only used tear gas an rubber bullets but also shotgun rounds, glas bullets and more. Merino tried to get away with a law granting absolute immunity to all police on duty. Most major companies (including banks) and nearly all churches are against that opression and in favor of the protests so not just some “radical leftists”. Police Veterans and many local Police have spoken out in favor of the protesta as well.
