Hurricane Iota powers up in new threat to Central America

Iota strengthened to a hurricane on Sunday as it barreled toward Central America, a region still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Eta. Nicaragua and Honduras are the likely landfalls where evacuations were being conducted. Iota had maximum sustained winds of 125 mph early Monday and was centered about 190 miles east-southeast of Cabo Gracias a Dios on the Nicaragua-Honduras border.
