Wolf predation of beavers changes the landscape in a Minnesota National Park

Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota has become the proving ground of an ecological theory on wetland creation. Because beavers that venture beyond their established ponds are more likely to become prey to a wolf pack that has specialized in rodent hunting, formation of new wetlands and ponds is halted as beavers’ dams are left unfinished. Similar mechanism is to take place elsewhere too.
