Japan reported more than 2,000 new coronavirus cases Wednesday for the first time since the start of the pandemic. It also registered 12 deaths during the last 24 hours. Capital Tokyo also confirmed a daily record of 493 cases, beating the previous high of 472 cases recorded on August 1. Experts said this could be an indication that the third wave of the pandemic has started in the country.
This may be another "canarrie in the coalmine." Japan has one of the highest urban populations in the world. It will be a challenge to contact and trace infections, should this keep progressing.
