US drops drug-trafficking charges against ex-Mexican defense secretary

US Attorney General William Barr said the Department of Justice will not bring in charges of drug trafficking and money laundering against former Mexican Secretary of National Defense General Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda. The DOJ said Cienfuegos may now be investigated by Mexican authorities. Among other things, Zepeda was also accused of taking bribes in exchange for protecting cartel leaders.
