US, Britain accuses China for breaching HK deal post lawmakers disqualification
The US, Britain, Aus, Canada and NZ on Wed. jointly accused China of violating its assurance following disqualification of pro-democracy lawmakers from HK’s legislature. The foreign ministers from Five Eyes intelligence sharing group said that China was moving away from its 1984 promise to Britain that it would maintain the autonomy in the financial hub after the then colony’s handover in 1997.
China has been waging Calm War on HK for years. The mystery tank busses, CCP troops helping HKPD, mass arrests of protesters, most of which havent been seen again, Chinese interference with HK'ers fleeing to Republic of China(Taiwan), and now everyone is getting involved now that pro-democracy politicians were removed from office. This is too little, too late. Intervention should have began when CCP tanks disguised as busses rolling towards Hong Kong.
Britain should never have handed Hong Kong over to China they should have either keep it or given it to Taiwan
The profit seekers woke the Giant. What to do now?
Finally something. All of Europe should back this. Take a stand against the bully or they will never stop.
But what will they do about it? What practical use is telling China "We are shocked - SHOCKED - that you broke a promise to us!" What actions will China face for its behavior? Nothing at all.
