Scientists successfully reverse human cell ageing process in breakthrough study

Researchers from Tel Aviv University claim to have successfully reversed the biological ageing process in a group of elderly adults. The team used hyperbaric oxygen therapy to reverse two key indicators of biological ageing: Telomere length and senescent cells accumulation. The process involved participants sitting in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for five 90-minute sessions per week over 3 months.

That's amazing, but it's also far from a fountain of youth. As Bret Weinstein has explained and written papers on. Simply having longer telomeres doesn't help you live forever, it simply offloads the probability you will die of cell death from aging onto the probability you will die of overgrown tumors and cancer.

This is a hyperbolic claim and DEEPLY misleading. Aging is not going to be reversed by an oxygen chamber; if it were everyone woukd have been doing it after the first few people a hundred years ago. Aging is, per Aubrey De Grey, the accumulation of damage over time, and there are 7 key types of damage to repair in order to stave off aging. For example, mitochondrial DNA that becomes damaged resulting in mitochondria unable to provide ATP to the cell. Or, the accumulation of proteins or other cellular detritus that thr cell is unable to break down, resulting in cell death. This study is merely stating that they were able to lengthen the telomeres in the DNA, nothing more. As helpful as that is it isn't that revolutionary as other studies have also done this.
