Los Angeles has now crossed 300 homicides in 2020
Los Angeles recorded four killings from Saturday into Sunday morning, pushing the city into the 300-death mark for the first time since 2009. The city has seen homicides up 25% this year compared to last year, while shootings are up 32%. Over the weekend, one victim was a 17-year-old boy riding a bicycle, while the others were a 50-year-old homeless man, a 20-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman.
Going to be fascinating tracking the statistics covering crime, poverty, median income, mobility, home ownership, health and wealth of minorities, health insurance coverage and general satisfaction over the next four years. Particularly looking forward to the one in 2024 that asks ‘Do you feel better off than you did four years ago?”.
Wait a minute....I thought LA had strong gun laws...it’s almost like criminals don’t follow the law
Listen, when I say "defund the police," I don't mean I want the police decreased or scaled back. I just want resources directed from the police into things like more mental health workers. All those guns that were shot could've been avoided with a more proactive and targeted approach to mental health. Can you imagine how safe we would be if everyone had to have an evaluation every couple of years like how we do with driver's licenses?
This is about the fact that 50% of the city has no job. This is a local issue that stems from the national failure.

Defund the police and gun control nationwide. If the police can just concentrate on true crimes like shootings, robberies and rapes then they would probably have less shooting instead of sending police out for traffic tickets and health checks. Plus you have a rise of shooting in LA and mall shootings and school shootings. What does it take to create change in this country? You definitly need gun contro and for any of you who say “the criminals are going to get guns anyway”. That’s what the police are actually for and if say they can’t do it then defund them completely.
Oh great everybody is now a police/Homicide expert and will incorrectly evaluate correlation data as a causation. Oh yes, the over budgeted LAPD somehow doesn’t have funds to conduct policing 🙄
If they are trying to catch Chicago homicides. Keep up the same work ethic so far. Just ignoring it and blaming police works out well to increase the homicides.
