The Cambridge University Library acknowledged on Tuesday that two of Charles Darwin’s notebooks containing his pioneering ideas on evolution and his famous ’tree of life’ sketch are missing. The library confirmed that they were worth millions of pounds. The University first reported notebooks as missing in 2001 after they were moved out of Special Collections strong rooms for photography.
Talk about a cold case - why did it take almost 20 years to start an investigation outside of the archive? Whomever was in charge of the place 20 years ago has some explaining to do.
