China criticizes pope over comment on Uighur Muslims

China criticized Pope Francis over a passage in his new book in which he mentions suffering by Uighur Muslims. ’People of all ethnic groups enjoy the full rights of survival, development, and freedom of religious belief,’ a foreign ministry spokesperson said, adding that Francis’ remarks had ’no factual basis.’ In his book, Francis lists Uighurs among examples of groups persecuted for their faith.

I don't always agree with Francis but points for pointing out that the CCP is running actual concentration camps and the world is just sort of ok with that.

Communism cannot tolerate religion, because the government must become your religion and your God. Since this never works out very well, we should never put our government on top. Communism has no choice, because it's survival is the only goal, anyone who worships anything above the government must be stopped immediately. This shows how weak communism is. How frail and fake it is. And how economic facts that date back 5,000 years or more will never allow communism to work, because it pretends these economic facts don't exist. This is why people are starving these countries. This is why all the people who supported it at the beginning (using let's take all the rich people's money as a ploy) regret that and will do anything to get out from under the evils of Communism and socialism

He's right, but if it were Christians, he wouldn't say that. He wouldn't care. And this is coming from an atheist.

"...enjoy full rights of...", reply from spokesman is that it doesn't have factual basis. Which is correct, their rights are violated, hard to say they enjoy them.
