Thousands of online services impacted due to AWS outage
A widespread internet outage has been seen in the eastern US. Amazon Web Services were affected by the outage as they provide internet infrastructure to many websites and apps. Video game League of Legends, Amazon’s Ring doorbell and Sirius XM satellite radio avail services from AWS. Amazon Web Services said a programming interface for its Kinesis Data Streams product was ’severely impaired’.
Just a precursor to what's on the horizon. External forces can shut down whole sections of the power grid if they want - not just Amazon servers...
Companies use the cloud to save money by getting rid Of their in house IT staff. All their eggs have been put in one basket and when it goes down the company IT director is at fault for bad decision.
In the Vietnam Air War, the Americans tried for a while just to use missiles and no machine guns on their planes. The Russian fighter planes were consequently able to outgun us because missiles miss. Then then Americans went back to machine guns on all the planes. My point of saying all of this is that technology's ultimate purpose is to fail, it can only let you down. Imagine being unable to get into your house because the power is out.
