Turkey hands life imprisonment to 100s over their roles in anti-Erdogan coup

A court in Turkey sentenced 337 former pilots and others to multiple life imprisonments for their involvement in the July 15, 2016 coup attempt against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This includes at least 25 F-16 pilots, who were given aggravated life sentences without the possibility of parole. Erdogan’s regime blamed the supporters of US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen for the coup attempt.

During this period of weakness in western liberal democracies having to deal with internal disputes of how we don't have any freedom, rouge dictators are popping up everywhere to make their own power plays. One thing in common, they are all led by people who have practically been voted in for life, and therefore crave more power from populist policies. Democratic term limits are one of the greatest inventions of the west after millinia of dealing with these madmen. Now we are floating back to step one.
