Swiss to vote on law making businesses responsible for global rights abuses

Swiss voters will vote Sunday on a law that would make Swiss businesses financially and legally liable for human rights violations or environmental damage. The vote is expected to be close. The law would apply to the companies’ actions anywhere in the world. Switzerland is a global center for business and commodity trading. Companies such as Nestlé, Syngenta, Glencore or Novartis are based there.
