Volcano in eastern Indonesia erupts, thousands forced to flee

Around three thousand people from at least 28 villages were evacuated Sunday after Indonesia’s Ile Lewotolok volcano, located in East Nusa Tenggara province, erupted Sunday, spewing smoke and a column of ash as high as 4,000 metres into the sky. There were no reports of deaths or injuries from the eruption. A flight warning has been issued in the area and a local airport has been closed.
