New Zealand declares climate emergency, vows carbon neutral govt in 5 years

New Zealand has declared climate emergency and pledged that the government would go carbon neutral by 2025. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the move was based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s findings that to avoid a more than 1.5°C average rise in global temperature, emissions would need to fall by around 45% from 2010 levels by 2023 and reach zero by around 2050.
