Google illegally spied on workers before firing them, US labor board says

The US National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint against Google alleging the tech giant violated American labor laws by spying on workers who were organizing employee protests, and then firing two of them. The NLRB found Google fired the two in late 2019 in connection with employee activism. It said Google’s policy against staff after looking at certain coworkers’ calendars is illegal.

An avidly ‘left wing’ company that doesn’t allow workers to unionise & fight for better working conditions. Are you seeing it yet people?

Big brother would never do that! Unregulated /under regulated google good. Please don't watch us watch you! We won't use all our power of information control to decide what side of a story you will see or not or if the story should not even bee seen. Please everyone, blind trust.

This is about a company that does not want its employees to unionize, not about spying. I am sure it wasn’t a big secret who the “troublemakers” were. Standard Tom and Jerry shenanigans.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 It was obvious when google remove their slogan few years back. “Don’t be evil” when they are the evil empire.

Now, think how much data they have on us. Pictures, contacts, likes, dislikes, routines... it's scary, isn't it? - writing this from my Google pixel phone

Assuming the company was spying on them, how does that inherently lead to them getting their jobs back? I mean it still leaves the accusations, and given reason for the original firings, levied by the company against the two ex employees as the primary barrier.

Google does all sorts of amoral things to regular Americans on a daily basis. So of course Google would do amoral things to their own employees too. Google management doesn't care. The company makes ao much money that they'll just spend their way out of it.

I'm a liberal-centrist. People on the left, if we want the moral high ground, some of the ways the left works against the public needs to stop being supported. We talk about reducing corporate power ... but then we get mad every time Google or Twitter or whatever stops serving us, and turns their anti-speech, anti-labor, anti-regulation guns on us. Any weapon made, can be made to be used against anyone. We talk about reform, but our movements get mixed up with anarchists and revolutionary communists, who get violent and make the movements act bad in sum. Your political opponents aren't stoopid. Stop pretending they are. End the complacency and dishonesty, where we compare their worst with our best. That's a fools comparison. Promote your best, condemn and fix your worst, or the worst among us will continue to hold power.

That surprises who ? They spy on everyone .Do you think them being employees makes them special ?

When you add it up, stories like this, the draconian robo firing and terrible working conditions at amazon warehouses, the "fire the bottom %20 performers" every year in the Amazon offices. The cool high tech companies "disrupting" industries with gig economy jobs that download risk and expenses but at minimum wages and no benefits. These modern, high tech companies have set-back hard fought workers rights a 100 years. And unions are still considered to be terrible by the very workers it fought for and support. If unions are bad for workers why is Google pulling this ? Because they are scared shitless. Unions are bad is a very successful PR campaign by companies to allow them to undermine workers rights just as they are doing now.

I remember Google used to have "Don't be evil" motto. I think it is time to rephrase - "Don't be Google". Same meaning though.

Sounds very similar to what happened to Trump and he was our employee! Google, Facebook, Twitter are all demonstrating that we should cower under their threats of oppression! Maybe we need another official defense force, maybe we need a digital oppression monitoring agency, DOMA would monitor and fine companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter etc. for attacks on dissidents or political censorship! We have A.I. so it is not impossible to monitor them!
