On this day, in 1942, U.S. bombers struck the mainland of Italy for the first time with a raid on Naples, during WW2. Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered for the first and only time, in 1965, for a jam session at Sun Records in Memphis. Dianne Feinstein became San Francisco’s first female mayor in the year 1978, as she replaced the assassinated George Moscone.
